About this Area of Pando
The Lower Pando South Section spans 16.31 acres of Pando’s land mass and offers a portrait of the unique beauty of Pando’s rugged homeland. Along the outer edges of this section, one can find tall basaltic cliffs and areas of intense growth, especially in areas where you find dense fields of volcanic boulders. This, in contrast to the middle areas almost void of new growth. In 2022, Fishlake National Forest approved a plan to install permanent fencing and begin restoration work in this section of Pando, that plan details efforts to expand the protective fence line from the adjacent Lower Pando Exclosure where we see Pando flourish today, to help Pando “spread” out once again just as it has done moving back and forth across this land for some 9,000 years.
