About this Area of Pando
The Lower Pando South Section spans 16.31 acres of Pando’s land mass and offers a study in contrasts. Along its periphery, volcanic cliffs, quiet meadows and sprouts of regeneration despite the lack of fencing. Across its front and middle, roads splice the tree. One only has to go to the edge of the fence line of the adjacent Lower Pando Exclosure section to see the contrast, flourishing on one side, vast voids where cars and other intensive human activity are permitted on the other. Fishlake National Forest has approved a plan in 2023 to permanently protect the area with fencing and to begin restoration work that has been successful in other parts of the Pando.
